Vanessa Scherstrom

Vanessa Schertrom was born in Fairfax, Virginia and has been a resident of Virginia her entire life. Vanessa is married to Edward Powell Jr. and they reside in Manassas, VA. Vanessa went to Gar-Field High School and obtained her B.A. in Communications from George Mason University.

Vanessa is currently the Executive Assistant at the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation and brings over 15 years of nonprofit administrative experience to the position. Early in her career she chose to only work for nonprofit organizations as it was a way to contribute to the betterment of a particular field of study or to the local community. She spent two years at a standards development organization working with world renowned experts both in the United States and abroad to develop and revise safety standards for the compressed gas industry. This experience gave Vanessa a love for editing, which she has used to assist job seekers in refining their cover letters and resumes. Vanessa has been a certified CPR/First Aid trainer and has taught classes on fire safety and emergency preparedness for people preparing to work with those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Mrs. Scherstrom believes that administrative work is the unsung hero of the office and loves learning new ways to use software. Vanessa also enjoys making her own jewelry, writing, and is fascinated by Austrian economics.
